UK flyer sizes
Flyers in the UK use A sizes, plus DL and two square sizes. Each A size is half the one above it, so two A5 flyers fit on an A4 sheet. The table shows each size trimmed and with 3mm of bleed, and the pixel size to design at for 300dpi.
| Size | Trimmed | With bleed | Pixels with bleed (300dpi) | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A7 | 74 × 105mm | 80 × 111mm | 945 × 1311px | Vouchers and tickets |
| A6 | 105 × 148mm | 111 × 154mm | 1311 × 1819px | Handouts and vouchers |
| A5 | 148 × 210mm | 154 × 216mm | 1819 × 2551px | The all-rounder |
| A4 | 210 × 297mm | 216 × 303mm | 2551 × 3579px | Menus and price lists |
| A3 | 297 × 420mm | 303 × 426mm | 3579 × 5031px | Posters |
| DL | 99 × 210mm | 105 × 216mm | 1240 × 2551px | Envelopes and leaflet racks |
| Square | 148 × 148mm | 154 × 154mm | 1819 × 1819px | Standing out |
| Large square | 210 × 210mm | 216 × 216mm | 2551 × 2551px | Standing out |
Which size to choose
A5 is the all-rounder: big enough for an offer, a few details and a map, and cheap to print in bulk. A6 and A7 suit handouts and vouchers you can slip into a bag or a pocket. A4 and A3 suit menus, price lists and posters. DL is a third of A4, so it fits a standard envelope and a leaflet rack. Square flyers stand out because most flyers aren’t square.
Bleed and the safe area
Add 3mm of bleed on every edge, so the background runs past the trim and no white edge shows after cutting. Keep text and logos at least 3mm inside the trim. Use 300dpi images, CMYK colour, and embed or outline your fonts. I check every file before it’s printed.
Paper weight
150gsm silk is the standard flyer paper: smooth, lightly coated and good for colour. 170gsm silk is a little heavier. 250gsm and 350gsm silk feel more like card, 130gsm gloss gives a shiny finish, and 120gsm or 170gsm uncoated is easy to write on. Flyer printing prices compares what each size and paper costs.
Flyers or leaflets?
A flyer is a single flat sheet, printed on one side or both. A leaflet is folded: a half fold gives 4 pages, and a roll or Z-fold gives 6 panels from one sheet. If you need more room for a menu or a price list, a folded leaflet is often the answer.
