Why most Glasgow web designers do not publish prices
Ask five web designers in Glasgow what a website costs and most will say "it depends", then ask for a call. It does depend, but you should still be able to see a realistic starting point before you speak to anyone. These are the prices I actually quote as a senior freelance web designer based in Glasgow. They are starting prices, and the final quote depends on the number of pages, the platform, how much content you supply and how quickly you need it live.
Landing page: from £500
A single page built to do one job, such as promoting a launch, an offer or an event, or giving a new business a professional presence quickly. It includes a strong hero section, a clear offer message, benefit-led sections, calls to action, an enquiry form or contact button, a mobile-friendly layout, a basic SEO title and description, image treatment and launch support. It suits a new Glasgow trade, consultancy or pop-up that needs to look credible this month, not next quarter. Every package is set out on the website design page.
One-page business website: from £800
A long-scroll site that covers the whole business on one page: introduction, services, about, gallery, reviews, contact details with a Google Map, social links and an enquiry form. For many local businesses, such as a West End café, a Southside salon or a mobile trade working across Greater Glasgow, this is all the website they need, and it is quick to keep up to date.
3–5 page small business website: from £1,250
This is the package most small businesses choose. Typically Home, About, Services, Gallery or Menu, and Contact, with a contact form, basic SEO setup, website graphics, image treatment and launch support. Separate service pages matter if you want to appear in Google for more than your business name, because each page can focus on one thing you sell.
Premium and ecommerce websites: from £1,750 to £3,500
A premium small business website (from £2,000) runs to 5–8 pages with a stronger visual direction, more custom layouts, detailed service pages and gallery or case study pages. Ecommerce starts from £1,750 for a template-customised Shopify, WooCommerce, Wix or Squarespace shop with up to 10 initial product uploads, and from £3,500 for a more detailed shop with category structure and up to 30 initial products.
What adds to the cost
The usual extras are additional pages (from £150 for a standard page, £250 for a designed page), a blog or news section (from £250), booking system setup (from £350), copywriting support (from £250) and basic SEO setup (from £150). The biggest hidden cost is not on any price list: content. A project moves fastest, and costs least, when your text and photos are ready before design starts.
What it costs after launch
A website is not finished on launch day. Monthly website support starts at £95 for light updates and checks, £195 for regular updates, £295 for comprehensive monthly management and £395 for ecommerce support. If you will only need occasional changes, ad-hoc updates are fine. If you change menus, offers or events every month, a support plan is usually cheaper than paying per change. The website maintenance guide explains what each monthly plan covers.
Freelancer or agency for a Glasgow website?
An agency makes sense for large builds that need a project manager, developers and copywriters working in parallel. For most small business websites, a senior freelancer is the better fit: you deal directly with the person designing and building the site, with no account management layer added to the price. My own background includes designing and building a classic-car sales website during my agency years, alongside 12+ years of brand, campaign and screen design for major brands.
