How Much Does a Small Business Website Cost in the UK?

Website costs for small businesses in the UK range from a few hundred pounds to several thousand depending on scope. Here is how to budget properly.

What kind of website do you actually need?

Before thinking about cost, clarify what you are actually building. A landing page for a single service is a straightforward project. A three-to-five-page business site is considerably more involved. An ecommerce build on Shopify or WooCommerce is a different scope again. Getting this clear before approaching a designer saves a lot of back-and-forth and gives you a realistic budget to work from.

Typical website costs for small businesses

A focused landing page typically starts from £500. A one-page small business website starts from £800. A 3–5 page website with home, services, about, gallery and contact pages starts from £1,250. A premium small business site with stronger visual direction and more custom layouts starts from £2,000. Starter ecommerce on Shopify or WooCommerce starts from £1,750. These are starting points — scope, content, functionality and platform all affect the final number.

What affects the final price

The biggest variables are: how much content you supply ready to use (copy, photography, brand files), which platform is used (custom-built costs more than template-based), how many pages and features are required, and how complex the design needs to be. Projects that begin with unclear scope, missing content or frequent brief changes will always cost more and take longer than projects that are well-prepared from the start.

Ongoing costs after launch

A website is not a one-time cost. Hosting, domain renewals, platform fees, security updates, content changes and seasonal design refreshes all need to be factored in. Monthly website support packages are available from £95/month and cover light updates, content changes, banner design and general maintenance. Knowing these ongoing costs upfront avoids surprises after the site goes live.
